Sexual Addictions: Getting Help

Whether you are homosexual or heterosexual and whether your problem is sexual activity, pornography, or sexual thoughts, you can get help.

You will have to embarrass yourself and confess honestly to someone. The possible exception to this is if you are not a Christian. Become one, and the act of repentance and the experience of salvation may well deliver you completely and instantly.

You need to understand how to appropriate the power of God in your life. Two of my blog posts, The Goodness and Severity of God and Escaping the Corruption That Is in the World, will help.

If you are a Christian and you have been sexually active (homosexual or heterosexual) or using pornography, you will need help from a person or people (most likely people). Many churches now have programs for men with pornography or sexual addictions. If you're a woman, you will have to get help from spiritual friends. I have never heard of a sexual addiction program for women. If you are a man, a reasonable amount of effort should find a church program for men.

It's important to know that if you lived in a society that didn't promote sex and throw it in your face, and if you had never programmed your mind, by continual practice, to think on the subject, the choice to obey God in this matter would be much easier. The more you make the choice to obey God and think pure thoughts, the easier it will become, and quickly. The devil would have you believe that abstinence in thought will become more and more difficult, but that is not true.

Where To Go from Here

If you are dealing with sexual sin, it is important that you understand both the Gospel and the grace that allows you to live the Gospel (Tit. 2:11-14). You can find teaching about both on these two blog pages:

I also have a book called Grace that can give you a more biblical understanding of grace than is commonly taught in our churches today. It is really just a more thorough and organized treatment of the same issues addressed in the two blog pages above. Grace is available in paperback and on Kindle.
