I use this newsletter to send Bible studies as much as once per week, sometimes less, but never more. See back issues.
Why do I discuss evolution here and there on my blog? Because of running into so many people who say things like this:
The mere fact no person has EVER found true historical evidence of millions of years of evolution makes it fall flat on it's face. The lack of fossils, while there are some that are not as lying scientists say, there would be multiple layers of easily findable evidence, which no person has yet to find nor will they. Time itself has proven you wrong, and for that you will burn unless you seek God and His Son Jesus Christ.
This person wrote a lot more to me, all of it proving that he knows nothing at all about evolution or evolutionary science. I included only one of his arguments above because it is so common and so easily refuted.
My books, and those I have published for others, consistently maintain 4-star and better ratings despite the occasional 1- and 2-star ratings from people angry about my kicking over sacred cows.
If you suggest there is a lack of fossil evidence for evolution, you prove to any knowledgeable person that you have made no effort to learn anything about evolution (e.g., see transitional fossil faq).
If you call anyone a liar concerning a subject that you have invested no reasonable effort in learning, then you are dishonest and a slanderer. You ought to be much more afraid of God's judgment on your dishonest slander than his judgment on those who honestly believe the evidence for evolution.
It does not bother me that many Christians are ignorant about the evidence for evolution. Nor does it bother me when Christians reject evolution because of the Bible.
There is a huge difference, though, between admitting ignorance and disinterest concerning evolution and professing knowledge that one does not have. The worst form of this is in the email I received, where an ignorant, disinterested Christian refers to "lying scientists."
Is this what we have come to? Our religion is so desperate for protection from science and skeptics that we can throw out morality and honesty to defend it?
I sincerely hope this is not true.
I have devoted long hours not only to studying the science of evolution, but also to reviewing the myriads of arguments, videos, and web pages that readers send to me. The huge majority of those are torturous to endure because they are produced by purposely ignorant people pretending to be knowledgeable.
I call the people who produce those web pages and videos deceivers and liars because they are lying to the people who send me those pages and videos. The people who write to me are not deceivers; they are deceived. They have no idea that the producers of those videos, web pages, and books have such disregard for intellectual honesty.
It is possible that fundamentalists will never be able to tolerate me for accepting the scientific arguments for evolution. That doesn't bother me much. That they choose to continue to be deceived rather than admitting their ignorance, this I find very difficult to tolerate. It announces to the world that our faith is built on superstition and that it requires rejecting truth.
Jesus is the Truth. He is not afraid of it.
